The Mendoza's journey

German & Mirna Mendoza

German Mendoza feels that God is taking him on a journey – far beyond where he could imagine.

After Mirna Mendoza’s father traveled to the United States, he became a citizen and later sent for his family, including brothers, their wives and his daughter, Mirna. Mirna brought her husband German on the journey to the United States. Now, God is taking the Mendoza family on a journey of another kind – a journey in the ministry.

German Mendoza compared his journey in the ministry to the plane trip he took to Indianapolis for the New Church Ministry training in the fall of 2009. As he sat on the plane and it began to ascend into the air, he felt like he was beginning on a new journey with God, a journey far beyond where he could imagine. He felt God saying to him, “I will take you places.”

There is a saying – “A family that prays together stays together.” It is certainly the case with the Mendoza family. Ten month ago, German, Mirna, Fredy and Besy felt the call to start a church. So they did. “We got the call to open a Hispanic church in Independence, Missouri,” said Fredy. “We saw that there are a lot of people that need God.” It’s a family affair. German and Fredy, who are co-pastors, started Iglesia Cristiana Linaje Escojido, in the basement of Fredy and Besy’s home. Now the church, 80 members strong, nests at Eastgate Christian Church in Independence. According to the family, their goal is to have their own building eventually. “We want to be in our own building, reaching people and assisting people in ways they can connect,” said German.
